I visited this beautiful city many times and seen different things on each visit. In 1989 we hit the town during the beer fest and there was a boat fight on the river, teams from neighbouring towns jousting on the front of gondola type vessels. Thousands were watching. The last time I visited Bamberg was 2002 and we were distracted by the nearby Annerfest at Forcheim. However, we still managed to go around the monastary and sample the rauch (smoked) beer. Very nice too!
