Ironbridge Gorge |
||
| In the Severn Valley between Shrewsbury and
Worcester lies some real history. This is where Abraham Darby built the
worlds' first iron bridge.
Now a tourist attraction, there are many places to visit. A passport to the area will buy you admission to every site for £42 for a family ticket. Good value, there are, I think 12 places.
Blists Hill Victorian Town From Enginuity in Coalbrookdale which is a fun place for children to learn about materials and motion to the Tile museum in Coalport. |
Blists Hill Victorian Town has to be the jewel in the crown of this area. A large site with victorian shops, bank, pub, fairground, a 1/2 size replica Iron Bridge, houses, candlemakers, iron foundry, this has to be the place to visit.
Other local attractions within the passport area are The Iron Museum, Abraham Darbys' house, The Tar Tunnel. If you are cycling there as part of a tour, 2 youth hostels are in the vicinity: Ironbridge (in a beautiful blue brick building) and Coalport. |
