This stately home in deepest Worcestershire was built many hundreds of years ago and has been rebuilt , modernised and extended a number of times. It was aJacobean manor house, then became a mansion and was inherited by the first Earl of Dudley. He built fantastic gardens around the place, it was destroyrd by fire in 1937. English Heritage are now in the process of restoring part of the estate, I doubt that it will ever be restored 100% but so far, the buildings have been made safe, the fountain restored (this is worth the entrance fee on its own and the gardens are in a good state of repair. Also on this site is Witley Church which is quite splendid and has an amazing ceiling.
